CB5g Flashcards
where are antigens found
particles on the outer surface of cells
what are antigens
they identify if something inside the body is the cell of the body or has come from outside
how are antibodies made and destroy pathogens
pathogens have antigens which are unique to them
a lymphocyte (white blood cell) have have antibodies that fits into other lymphocytes which then become active
The newly active lymphocytes produce more lymphocytes with antibodies which then attack the pathogen
what are memory lymphocytes
they remember specific pathogens
why is there less antibodies made in the first response compared to the secondary response
during the primary response the white blood cells start to find the antibodies needed to kill off the pathogen
during the secondary response the memory lymphocytes are able to produce antibodies in large masses easily to kill the pathogen
