Q

what is osmosis

A

osmosis is the diffusion of water molecules, from a region where they are in higher concentration, to a region where they are in lower concentration.

Q

What is active transport

A

when cells transport molecules that are too big to diffuse through the cell membrane
Low to high concentration. active transport requires energy

Q

what are two differences between osmosis and diffusion to active transport

A

diffusion and osmosis travel from high to low
active transport travels from low to high

diffusion and osmosis don’t need energy whereas active transport needs energy as active transport goes against the gradient

Q

describe the cell membrane/ what can go through it and why

A

the cell membrane is partially permeable, they trap large soluble molecules inside cells, but water molecules can diffuse through the membrane

if there is more water molecules on one side of the membrane they will be a movement of water, to make it equal
