cavities and membranes (ch1) Flashcards
Dorsal (posterior) cavity
one of the larges body compartments, contains cranial cavity and vertebral cavity
Anterior (ventral) cavity
one of the largest body compartments, contains the thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity
cranial cavity
houses the brain
spinal cavity
encloses the spinal cord
thoracic cavity
more superior subdivision of the anterior cavity, enclosed by the rib cage, and contains the lung and the heart located iun the mediastinum. the diaphragm is on the bottom of the cavity and separates it from the abdominopelvic
abdominopelvic cavity
the largest cavity in the body. contains abdominal and pelvic cavity. we divide it into 4 quadrants, RU LU RL LL
adbdominal cavity
contains digestive organs
pelvic cavity
contiains the reproductive organs
serous membran (serosa)
thin mambranes covering walls and organs in thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities. 2 layers, parietal (lines the walls of the body cavity), and visceral (covers organs). separated by a fluid filled serous space (cavity). like a balloon with a fist pushing in it
pleura
serous membrane enclosing pleural cavity which surrounds the lungs
pericardium
serous membrane enclosing the pericardial cavity which surrounds the hear
perioneum
serous membran enclosing peritoneal cavity which surrounds many organs in the abdominopelvic cavity
