  • Judi has right knee OA, often feeling pain and swelling after participating in activity.
  • I would like to educate her on the importance of staying active but doing it **healthily and safely. **
  • I would advise that it is still safe to be active even when it causes pain but only to push into manageable pain around 4-5/10.
  • I would encourage swimming front crawl or backstroke to incorporate aerobic exercise but removing the weightbearing impact.
  • I would also advise to use the shower instead of the bath.

  • Keep walking independently as often as possible
  • Keep going to the exercise classes, if a warmup isn’t included I’d recommend doing a RAMP warmup to prepare for the exercises.
  • Encourage short drives to begin with, taking regular breaks to get out and mobilize, for instance start with a 15 minute drive get out stretch walk around for 10 minutes and then drive home 15 mins.
  • Swimming is a good way to complete exercise with some load removal, if we could maintain this it would be ideal so I would recommend a warmer cover-up for the changing area – thicker towels/robes – or asking the facility If they can change the temperature in the changing room.

  • resting enough and not tackling too much too fast as eager to get back to doing the household tasks, but it is important to not overwork too quickly after her MI.
