cartilage and bone images Flashcards
exam 2
mature cartilage cells- chondrocytes
collagen II
mature cartilage
actively growing collagen
osteoporosis
elastic cartilage
fibrocartilage
intervertebral discs
- spongy bone
- compact bone
name the type of bone and all the cells that can be found
Compact bone:
- Osteoprogenitor cells in the perioestum
- osteocytes
-
what is this? What two things you can see?
This is spongy bone:
- we can see the trabeculae
- within the poruous network we can see the hematopoietic marrow
What is this? When is this formed? What are the charactersitics?
This is woven bone that is produced in earyl devlopment.
- there is irregular fiber bundles of collagen
- contains a lot of osteocytes
what is this? what is so special about it?
This is lamellar bone which is arranged into layers which imparts strength to the tissue
-polarized light
What is this? what do you see (3)?
This is a Haversian system/osteon.
(1) you can see the central canal and it is surrounded by concentric lamellae.
(2) you can also see the osteocytes within the lacunae
(3) canaculi is marked by dendtritic processes
what are they? how does it differ from the haversian system?
this is a volkman canal and it differes from the haversian system is that it is not surrounded by concentric lamellae
