It provides a list of acts of cruelty that are punishable by law. These include overloading animals that are helping with moving stuff, locking up animals in tiny places for long periods of time ( confinement), chaining or tethering animals for long periods of time, leaving animals alone for long periods of time, not giving them food or water, keeping the animals in a dirty condition, and failing to take animals to the vet when they are sick.

Q

What is the difference between people who believe in animal rights versus people who believe in animal welfare?

A

People who believe in animal rights believe that animals are not ours to use for food, clothing, entertainment, or experimentation.
People who believe in animal welfare believe that animals can be used but that it is the human’s responsibility to ensure all aspects of animal well-being, including proper housing, nutrition, care, exercise, disease prevention and treatment etc.

Q

State two reasons why animals should not be kept in zoos.

A

A zoo is not their natural habitat and they are therefore not able to behave in their natural way e.g. killing their own food.
If the zoo does not have enough money or the owners don’t care about the animals, the animals will not be kept in good conditions.
