Caries Clinical Presentation And Diagnosis (2) Flashcards
What are 2 ways to diagnose caries based on their virginity of lesion?
- Initial/ primary caries
- Recurrent/ secondary caries
How would you class caries according to their extent?
Incipient caries
Occult caries
Cavitation
How would you classify caries based on their tissue involvement?
– Initial caries – demineralization without structural defect
– Superficial caries – enamel caries
– Moderate caries – dentin caries
– Deep caries – close to the pulp
– Deep complicated caries – caries led to the opening of the pulp cavity
How would you classify cares based on the number of surfaces involved?
– Simple
– Compound – 2 surfaces
– Complex – more than 2
– Surfaces to be restored:
– O, M, D, B, L/P and combinations: MOD
What is blacks classification of caries?
What is the WHO classification of dental caries?
D1-4
What is the IDCAS system of caries diagnosis?
Rated 0-6
What rating of the IDCAS will you need to manage?
4-6 by removing tissue and restoring
(0-3 is just preventable measures)
How do you calculate the sensitivity of of diagnostic accuracy?
TP/(TP=+FN)
What does the sensitivity of the diagnostic accuracy detect?
Probability that the diagnostic method indicates caries when caries is truly present
What s the calculation to calculate the specificity of diagnostic accuracy?
TN/ (FP+TN)
What does the specificity of diagnostic accuracy check?
Probability that the diagnostic method indicates “no caries” when caries is truly not present.
What method of diagnosis is shown here?
Visual-tactile caries examination
What is required when carrying out visual-tactile caries examination?
Good light
Clean
Dry
What caries diagnostic tool is shown here?
Fibre-optic transillumination
