Accident Prevention
Accidents resulting from these extreme forces of nature are estimated at only 2% of all accidents. People are responsible for most accidents. Some factors include the environment of the individual, work hours, deliberate unsafe acts and also tolerating unsafe acts.
Wearing of Jewelry
Crewmembers will not wear wigs, hair pieces, rings, ornaments, pins, clips, other hair fasteners, or earrings in the AC or on the flight line. Personnel on the flightline will not wear finger rings.
Driving on the Flightline
Personnel must obtain a government drivers license before they can operate any gov vehicle. One major problem on the flight line is speeding.
General Speed limit - 15mph
Within 25ft of an AC - 5 mph
Inside an aircraft - 3mph
Right of way also must be given to emergency vehicles, pedestrians and taxiing aircraft to avoid accidents.
Post Guides
Before backing a vehicle toward an AC, you should always post a guide to monitor the clearance.
Position Chocks
To ensure that you do not accidentally back into the AC, reposition the chocks as necessary for optimal placement of the vehicle
Driving or Backing Underneath AC
Do not drive vehicles within 10 feet of a parked AC except when the aircraft is being sericed, loaded, or offloaded.
Gas vehicles - Lowest Gear or Park
Diesel vehicles - in Neutral or Park
Smoking on the Flightline and AC
Smoking is prohibited in the flight line areas, unless the installation fire chief has designated a smoking area. Smoking on all military aircraft is prohibited
Danger Areas
Within the vicinity of all aircraft engines, APUs, propellers etc. specific areas are designated as danger areas. Typical danger areas include hazardous noise, engine/APU suction and exhaust, radar antenna radiation
Hazardous Noise
Precaustions is wearing the proper ear protective equipment.
Engine/APU suction and exhaust
never approach a running jet engine closer than 25 feet.
Radar/Antenna Radiation
Many aircraft are desined with radar and radio antennae that produce hazardous radiation emission. Prolonged exposure that the possibility of danger exist.
Cargo Ramp and Door
Ensure there are no obstruction in the way prior to opening the cargo ramp and door.
Loading/Off loading safety
is the primary responsibility of the SMA

Take advantage of this crew rest and use it wisely
Mental Preparation
Mental preparation includes your attitude toward your job, the loading crews, the crew you fly with and other agencies you deal with on a daily basis
