Caregiver-infant interactions AO3 Flashcards
Strength
P.Usually filmed in lab, meaning distractions can be controlled.
E.Using film means observations can be studied and analysed meaning it’s unlikely that researchers will miss key behaviours.
E.Babies don’t know they’re being recorded, behaviour won’t change
L.Data collected should have good reliability and validity
Limitation
P. Hard to interpret baby’s behaviour
E. Young babies lack co-ordination, movements are subtle.
E. Difficult to be sure if a baby is smiling or passing wind.
L. Meaning we cannot be certain these interactions have a special meaning.
Limitation
P. Observing behaviour doesn’t tell us it’s developmental importance.
E. Feldman-synchrony simply gives names to patterns of observable caregiver-baby behaviours
E.May no be particularly useful in understanding child development, doesn’t tell us the purpose of these behaviours.
L. Meaning we can’t be certain that reciprocity and synchrony is important.
