where is the horrific inlet?
bounded by ribs 1, T1 vertebra and jugular notch
where is the transverse thoracic plane?
between sternal angle, and T4/T5 intervertral disc
what gland is located in the anterior mediastinum?
Thymus gland
What does the Thymus gland do?
this produces t-lymphocytes in childhood
What does this Thymus gland get replaced by?
adipose tissue after puberty
what is found in the middle mediastinum?
pericardium, heart, tracheal bifurcation
What is found in the posterior mediastinum?
azygous vein, sympathetic trunks, thoracic duct, vagus nerve, trachea, main bronchi, thoracic aorta
where does the azygous vein drain into?
superior vena cava
where does the posterior intercostal veins drain into?
azygous vein
where does the right lymphatic duct drain into?
right venous angle
where does the thoracic duct drain into?
left venous angle
where are the broncho-pulmonary lymph nodes found?
they surround the main bronchus at the lung root
where is the left venous angle?
left sterno-clavicular joint
what is the cistern chyli?
swollen start of thoracic duct in the abdomen
where does the right phrenic nerve pass through?
passes through the diaphragm with the IVC to supply the diaphragm from the inferior aspect
