How do Yoga practices benefit the cardiovascular system?
Strong vinyasa increases cardiac and respiratory function
Strengthens the cardiac muscle
Gentle vinyasa rebalances HBP via the nervous system
Vinyasa krama increases sweat and cardiac output thereby cleansing the blood, skin and lungs
Forward bends massage the kidneys thereby supporting RAS
Muscle movement also helps pump blood around the body
Increases circulation improves the removal of waste products from the blood
What is the function of blood?
To deliver necessary substances to the body’s cells – such as nutrients and oxygen – and transport waste products away from those same cells
What is the function of arteries?
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body
What is the function of veins?
Carry deoxygenated blood away from the tissues of the body and waste rich blood back to the heart and lungs
What is hypertension?
High blood pressure
What are the symptoms of hypertension?
Not really any, usually discovered in routine checkups
What is hypotension?
Low blood pressure
What are the symptoms of hypotension?
Lightheadedness
Dizziness
Fainting
Seizures
