Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Target zone
The range within which an individual needs to work for aerobic training to take place (60-80% max HR)
Heart rate
The number of times the heart beats each minute
Cardiac output
The amount of blood ejected form the heart in one minute
Cardiovascular fitness
The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time
Blood pressure
The force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of the blood vessels
Aerobic
Exercise with oxygen, not too intense and steady
Anaerobic
Without oxygen, short fast bursts of exercise
Training thresholds
The boundaries of the target zone
What does adrenaline do?
A hormone that is released before exercise and increases HR
Why does blood pressure increase when exercising?
Because there is more blood pumping from the heart in the vessels
Systolic pressure
Amount of pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts
Diastolic pressure
When the heart is at rest
Pulse pressure
Is the difference between systolic and diastolic pressure
Stroke volume
The volume of blood pumped out of the heart by each ventricle during one contraction
