Cardiac, Pulmonary, Neurological and Bariatic Factors Flashcards
Cardiac output
quantity of blood umped by the heart in one minute
-functional capacity of circulatory system to meet the demands of physical activity
What is a coronary artery bypass graft?
restore perfusion to the anterior vessel (typically LAD)
What are the coronary artery bypass precautions?
UE lifting less than 10 pounds
No pushing or pulling with UEs
No resistive exercises or loading of the upper extremity past 90 degrees flexion and abduction
Bed rest for cardiac catherterization for venous access?
4-6 hours
Bed rest for cardiac catherterization for arteria access/
6-8 hours
PT goals for cardiac patients?
Assess hemodynamic response
Maximize activity tolerance
Provide Patient and family education regarding behavior modification and risk factor reduction
What are indications for PT in cardiac patients?
cardiac impairments due to CHF, ACS, and CABG
What is normal intracranial pressure/
4-15mm Hg
What are PT goals for neurological patients?
- Promoting safety
- Functional Mobility
- Effects of bed rest
- joint contractures
- skin breakdown
- pulmonary complications
Patient presentation of obesity:
- slower drug metabolism: longer recovery from anesthesia: higher doses of pain medication
- sleep deprivation
- malnourished/undernourished
- joint pain
- increased rate of post-operative complications including:
- pulmonary
- vascular (DVT)
Physical therapy goals for bariatric patients:
- mobility
- safety
- prevention of complications associated with bed rest
Central Nervous System
brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System
Autonomic nervous system
Somatic nervous system
Branches of autonomic nervous system
sympathetic nervous system
parasympatheic nervous system
Somatic nervous system
afferent and efferent nerves to all parts of the body except the viscera, smooth muscles, and glands
