cardiac conduction system & regulation of cardiac cycle Flashcards
What is the cardiac conduction system?
specialized cardiac muscle tissue which conducts impulses
What is the sinoatrial (SA) node?
“pacemaker”, generates rhythmic impulses which spread through the myocardium
What are the junctional fibers?
carries impulses into the atrioventricular (AV) node
What is the atrioventricular (AV) node?
conducts impulses from the atria through the septum, to the ventricles
What is the AV bundle of His?
within the inter-ventricular septum, right and left branch transmits impulse to the walls of ventricles
What are Purkinje fibers?
branch throughout walls of the ventricles and carry impulse rapidly, stimulating contraction
What is the regulation of the cardiac cycle controlled by?
controlled by the cardiac center within the medulla oblongota
How does the heart maintain homeostasis?
increases or decreases heart rate in response to changes in state
Can your heart continue to beat if your cerebrum is not functioning?
if the motor cortex in the cerebrum is not functioning, the heart will not beat
