Cardiac conduction system Flashcards
What is the cardiac conduction systems role?
Specialised muscle tissue conducts impulse through the myocardium
Cells don’t contract, distribute, initiate impulses in the heart to coordinate the cardiac cycle
Where is the Sinoatrial Node (SA) located and what is its function?
Located in RA (posterior)
Self exciting mass of specialised cardiac muscles
Serves as a pacemaker
Generates the impulse for the heartbeat
What happens from the SA node?
Impulses spread to the atrial syncytium- causing atrial contraction to occur and then junctional fibres
What does junctional fibres lead to?
The next major component, the AV node
Where s the AV node located and what it its role?
Passes impulses to the AV bundle
Delays the signal until atria have finished contracting
Located in the inertial septum (between the ventricles)
