Carbon 13 nmr Flashcards
1
Q
What information (2) can be found by carbon 13 nmr?
A
- The number of peaks tells us the different number of carbon environments
- The types of environments by the chemical shift.
2
Q
What is TMS and what is it used for?
A
Tetramethylsilane, is used as the standard for chemical shifts measurements, it produces a ppm of 0. This is then used to refer chemical shifts against.
3
Q
Name a deuterated solvent and its use
A
CDCl3, deuterated solvents usually produce no signal for carbon 13 or proton nmr, so that the chemical shifts can be read clearly.
CDCl3 actually produces a signal for carbon 13 nmr but it is usually filtered out by a computer.
