Captains Guide- Flight Controls Flashcards
How can the elevator trim be operated?
The trim is usually operated manually. It can be electrically driven by the autopilot trim servo and standby trim switches in an emergency.
What are the powered flight controls?
The rudder and spoilers are powered by hydraulics. All other flight controls are cable actuated.
The ailerons and spoilers can be separated. Which pilot has which controls after the split?
The captain has the spoilers and the FO has the ailerons.
When either the Pitch or Roll disconnects are pulled, what happens?
A torque tube connects the elevators together. This tube is disconnected when the Pitch Disconnect is pulled. Roll clutch is disconnected, disengaging the spoilers and ailerons from each other.
The outboard spoilers are locked out at what speed?
140 KIAS
There are two rudder actuators. What is their normal operating pressure?
Normal pressure, below 140 kts in 200 (150 in 300) is 1500 psi for a total of 3000 psi. Above those speeds, pressure is decreased to 900 psi per actuator for a total of 1800 psi.
Rudder travel limits?
12 degrees with flaps up
16 left and 18 right with flaps extended.
Pressing the RUD 1 or RUD 2 switchlight does what?
Pressing either Rud switchlight will depressurize the respective actuator, leaving the other to receive full pressure.
RUD FULL PRESS means?
One of the actuator is getting the full pressure of the hydraulic system.
RUD PRESS means?
RUD PRESS means that the pressure to the actuators has not changed with airspeed.
FLAP POWER caution?
Flap power unit is not receiving full pressure or has malfunctioned. Flaps may not work or will work slowly.
FLAP DRIVE caution?
Means the secondary flap driveshaft is functioning. Means something happened to the primary. Flaps will work.
