Captains Guide-Fire Flashcards
How is an engine fire detected?
Two loops run through the entire nacelle. When the line is breached by fire, the warnings go off in the cockpit.
What are the indications of an engine fire?
Master warning, Engine Fire (2), Check Fire Det, T-Handles. Bell in 300.
What happens when T-Handle is pulled?
Shuts off hydraulic and fuel, arms fire bottle squibs.
Once a fire is detected, should you cancel the Engine Fire Warning?
No, these are the only indication the fire has been extinguished. Acknowledge and continue.
How many fire bottles on board?
For engine fires only two. However, the APU has a bottle (300) and there is a bottle in the lavatory above the wastebasket. So technically, there can be four.
How is fire detected in the baggage compartment?
There are two SMOKE detectors. Smoke warning light will illuminate. If fire is suspected, the F/A should be sent to investigate through the Row 9 door in the 200.
How can a fire in the lavatory be extinguished?
By the bottle above the wastebasket or by the F/A using the extinguisher in row 1.
Is there a warning for smoke in the lav?
No(unless you consider the smoke alarm is almost above the first officers head. Or an F/A screaming.
Can you tell externally if a fire bottle has discharged?
In the left wing root, there is a red disc and a yellow disc. If the bottle has discharged due to heat, the red disc will be out. If yellow is out, the bottle has been discharged by the system.
If a fire bottle indicator in the cockpit doesn’t illuminate, what has happened?
The bottle has been discharged ( or perhaps the light has burnt out)
