Caprine arthritis encephalitis virus

A

Leukoencephalomyelitis of kids 2-6 months old and polysynovitis-arthritis in goats 6 months or older. Does affected may have some mammary gland involvement and develop a hard fibrous udder,w which results in decreased milk production. Less commonly, goats may have interstitial viral pneumonia. Primarily transmitted to kids via milk or colostrum

Myotonia congenita

A

Autosomal dominant mutation with incomplete penetrance in goats. Causes abnormality in the skeletal muscle chloride channel. In goats, this condition is called “fainting goat syndrome.” The disease results in marked general rigidity after visual, tactile, or auditory stimulation.
