Cancer IV Flashcards
What are ScFv antibodies?
Displayed on bacteriophage and are usually derived from DNA libraries that people have produced
What is Rituximab used for?
Non-lymph Hodgkin lymphoma
What is Bevacizumab used for?
Colon cancer alongside chemotherapy + given with 5-FU, IV
What is cetuximab used for?
Colon cancer and head and neck cancer
What is herceptin used for?
Breast cancer - binds to extracellular domain of Her-2
How is perception administered?
IV
What are the adverse side effects of herceptin?
Heart failure
How does bevacizumab work?
Stops new blood vessels from forming by binding to vascular endothelial growth factor
What does Rituximab bind to?
CD20, in B cells (only expressed in B-cell non-hodgkin lymphoma)
What does Cetuximab target?
EGF receptor - may interfere with cancer cell growth by preventing EGF binding
What is cetuximb given with and how?
IV with irinotecan
What does L-asaparaginase target?
Features of leukaemia cells - starve them of metabolic components. Cancer cells cannot make asparagine from aspartate and so relies on the uptake from the blood
What do interferons do?
Anti cancer effects and stimulate the immune system to reject the cancer - not well tolerate at high doses
What are the two major types of interferons?
Type I (alpha and beta) and type II (gamma)
Where are type I produced from?
Fibroblast cells
