Can Bus Flashcards
What is Can bus?
Data highway which has multiple ECU’s connected in parallel which allows CPU’s to talk to each other without overloading a central computer
What is each connection point called?
Node
What does the ECU’s being connected in parallel mean?
Eliminate the need for multiple sensors, read by all the ECU’s
What does can bus do to the efficiency and performance ?
Communicates to enhance it
All the connected nodes have equal what?
Priority , meaning all messages on the bus are available to all the ECU’s at the same time
What does failure of one node do?
Does not impair the bus-system, enhancing the reliability
Why is the wiring uniformly twisted?
Easily identifiable
Reduce electromagnetic interference
What voltage range does can high carry?
2.5- 3.75 volts
What range of voltage can low carry?
1.25- 2.5 volts
What makes the wiring very resilient and reliable ?
Creates a 2.5 volt difference between CAN high and low eliminating the risk of inductive spikes, electrical fields or other interferences
What do the nodes check for ?
Errors and completeness, decides if it’s relevant to them
If yes, stores the message in its memory
If no, bins the message
How much is the bus capable of transmitting?
50,000 bits of data per second
What happens if all data is sent at once ?
Causes a collision of data
However , messages are given priorities
What is the error management system capable of?
Detecting errors, this rejects information by all the nodes
What are the 4 types of can bus?
I CAN
T CAN
M CAN
FS CAN
