what are the attachment styles?
- secure (distress when mum leaves, happy & hugs when comes back)
- insecure ambivalent (distress when mum left, fear of stranger & goes to mum when returns but no physical contact)
- insecure avoidant (no interest when mum leaves, happy with stranger)
what is type A and type C general idea (attachment styles)?
type A (avoidant) = negative self view, indifferent to other people’s views, hard to engage (avoid people - think people hate them)
type C (ambivalent) = low self worth, disruptive, hard to manage, impulsive (don’t trust people)
what is secure base vs safe haven?
secure base = attachment figure that provides safe space
safe haven = attachment figure that provides safe place where retreat to in times of danger & anxiety
what are subtypes of reactive attachment disorder (RAD)?
- inhibited = child who doesn’t seek comfort in parent/caregiver at times of alarm
- disinhibited = child who shows excessive familiarity in strangers
what is conduct disorder? types?
= repetitive or persistent behaviour where basic rights of other violated (no boundaries)
- mild - moderate (restricted to fam environment)
- severe
- unsocialised = mostly violent - dealt with in justice system
- socialised = more low key antisocial acts - better at avoiding jail
what is presentation/criteria for diagnosis of conduct disorder?
= 3 or more in past 12 months (with 1 in past 6)
- aggression to people or animals
- destruction of property
- deceitfulness or theft
- serious violation of rules
what are antenatal causes of cerebral palsy?
- maternal infections
- trauma in pregnancy
what are perinatal causes of cerebral palsy?
- birth asphyxia (deprived oxygen)
- pre-term birth
what are postnatal causes of cerebral palsy?
- meningitis
- severe neonatal jaundice
- head injury
what is duchenne’s muscular dystrophy?
x-linked recessive genetic disease causing muscle weakness & wasting (defective gene for dystrophin on x-chromosome)
what is presentation of duchenne muscular dystrophy?
usually starts at age 3-5yrs with pelvis muscle weakness and then progressively gets worse affecting all muscles
what is gower’s manoeuvre?
specific technique to stand up from lying that’s done in duchenne muscular dystrophy
