Description

A

Calcium is an essential component for the functional integrity of the nervous and muscular systems, for normal cardiac contractility, and for the coagulation of of blood. Calcium chloride is a hypertonic solution and should be administered by IV only slowly, not exceeding 1mL/min

A

Hyperkalemia (except when associated with digitalis toxicity
Hypocalcemia
Calcium channel blocker toxicity
Hypermagnesemia
To prevent hypotensive effects of calcium channel blockers

A

VF during cardiac resuscitation

Patients with digitalis toxicity hypercalcemia

A

Bradycardia (May cause asystole)

Severe local necrosis and sloughing following IM use or IV infiltration

A

Calcium may worsen dysrhythmias cause by digitalis
