C4 Positions In The Periodic Table Flashcards
1
Q

A
Electron amount in outer shelf.
2
Q
What does the period number tell us?
A
Amount of electron shelves.
3
Q
Mendeleev
A
- Mendeleev arranged his elements in order of atomic mass.
- This sometimes lead unusual placing of one or two elements because there are isotopes of different element which might distort the mass number, for example Iodine and Trillium.
- Now we organise our table by atomic number.
- This resolved all Mendeleevs issues.
4
Q
Modern periodic table
A
- Elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number, in rows called periods.
- Elements with similar properties are placed in the same vertical columns called groups.
5
Q
Metals
A
Because the periodic table groups together elements with similar properties, all the metals are found on the left of the table and the non-metals on the right. Most elements are non-metals.
