What are thermoreceptors?
Receptors that collect information regarding temperature
What are Mechanoreceptors?
Receptors that respond to pressure and changes in pressures
What are nociceptors?
Receptors that respond to pain
What is the somatosensory cortex?
Where touch sensation is routed
What is proprioception?
Our internal sense of the position of our body and all of its parts
How is the proprioceptive system different from the other sensory systems?
This system is all over our body, including the muscles and joints
Where are the vestibular receptors?
In the cochlea
What do the vestibular receptors respond to?
Fluid movement
What do the vestibular receptors do?
Monitor the position of your head in relation to the ground
What causes vertigo and what are the symptoms?
Dysfunction, structural damage, or infection to the vestibular receptors causing dizziness, loss of balance, and disorientation
Which nerves send information from our face?
Afferent cranial nerves
Which nerves send information from below the neck?
peripheral afferent nerves
