How would you test for a chloride?
A
Add a few drops of nitric acid and silver nitrate solution
Then shake
If precipitate is formed then chloride is present

How do you test for a sulphate?
A
Add a few drops of hydrochloric acid to barium barium chloride
Shake well
If white precipitate forms then sulphate is present

How do you test for a carbonate?
A
Add hydrochloric acid to a carbonate solution, then a will then rise through the test wire into the test tube containing limewater
If carbon dioxide is present then the limewater will bubble and it will turn milky and/or cloudy
