What is potable water?
A
Water that’s been treated or is naturally safe for humans to drink

Difference between potable water & pure water
A
Pure water has no dissolved substances, but potable water contains small amounts of it

Stages of potable water
A
- first choose a good source of fresh water (river)
- Then pass the water through a wire mesh for filtration to get rid of materials
- Then the water is sterilised to kill any harmful bacteria or microbes

What is the LCA?
A
Looks at every stage of a product’s life to assess the impact it would have on the environment

Stages of treating waste water
A
- sewage is screened by passing through a mesh
- sewage settles in a sedimentation tank
-effluent in the settlement tank is removed and treated by aerobic digestion - sludge from bottom of tank is removed and transferred into large tanks (broken by anaerobic digestion)
