C&P Principles Flashcards
During __________ HE violently change to a gaseous form instantaneously and release pressure and heat.
Low Explosives__________ which is a rapid burn.
Detonation
Deflagrate
3 types of explosives
Primary- M7, M6 blasting caps
Secondary- TNT, M112, DetCord, shocktube
Tertiary- ammonium nitrate
RE factors
Ammonium nitrate-.42 M1D- .92 TNT- 1 C2- 1.14 M186- 1.14 M112- 1.34 Det Cord- 1.66
What are the desired demolition effects?
Deformation/cratering
Spalling
Radial cracking
What is cratering?
Surface area of an object in direct contact with a charge is crumbled, cratered, depressed or indented from compressive shockwave.
What is spalling?
Shock waves move through target and chip away at tensile strength.
What is radial cracking?
Pressure load on the target will crack and displace material beyond the crater and spall.
Charge placement facts
Charge to target contact
Internal- more efficient= less explosives
External- more quick= more explosives
What are the components of an electric firing system?
CD450-4J- blasting machine
RL39A- Firing wire
M6- electronic blasting cap
What may cause an M6 blasting cap to prematurely detonate?
Radios Radars Tv signals Lightning Static electricity
MSD for charges less than 27 lbs?
More than 27, but less than 500 lbs?
300 meters
Refer to table 6-2
Vehicles transporting explosives should have at least________.
Vehicles should store initiators in_______.
Storing ammo rules?
2 class B/C fire extinguishers
A separate vehicle or in the cab of truck in approved ammo container.
No less than 3” off ground
No less than 18” from top of stack to ceiling
No more than 500 lbs per stack
No less than 140’ apart
