briefly explain Herzbergs two factor ( motivation-hygiene) theory.

A

.Herzbergs motivation-hygiene theory is the idea that satisfaction and dissatisfaction are caused by separate sets of factors.
. hygiene factors refer to the environment in which people work and include physical conditions, pay, job security, interpersonal relations and job status
. motivation factors relate to a persons type of work and include a sense of achievement, recognition, challenging work, responsibility and opportunity for advancement

briefly explain Locke’s goal setting theory

A

Dr Edwin Locke concluded that employees are motivated by clear goals and appropriate feedback regarding their achievement. Locke maintained that working towards a goal provided the motivation to reach that goal and this, therefore , improved peformance .

briefly explain maslows hierarchy of needs

A

maslows theories of motivation states that there are 5 stages of needs that need to be satisfied in order. these range from extrinsic or lower needs such as physiological and safety and security needs to higher order extrinsic needs such as social esteem and self actualisation needs.
