What should you do if a burn patient presents with signs of shock?
Look for another cause of the shock. That is a late sign in burns.
What is the first concern with burns?
Airway constriction
What is the difference between flame and flash burns?
Flame - thermal burn caused by flames touching the skin
Flash - an electro thermal injury caused by arcing electrical current
Where is the zone of coagulation?
The leathery and sometimes charred tissue that has sustained a full thickness burn
Where is the zone of stasis?
Area immediately surrounding the zone of coagulation. This area can undergo necrosis within 24 to 48 hours after the injury.
What is the zone of hyperemia?
The area least affected in a thermal burn. An area of increased blood flow where the body is attempting to repair injured but otherwise viable tissue.
What is the consensus formula chart?
Table used to represent how much fluid should be given in the first hour by the Parkland formula.
When is cherry red skin seen?
Late sign if CO intoxication.
