A
- Areas of body designated to 9%
- Leg chest 1/2 arm to determine extent of burn
- Children have larger head percentage
- pts palm = 1%

First degree- Sx
A
- Superficial epidermis
- Red blanching skin with normal texture
- pain and cap refill
- Heals in 10 days

Second degree- Sx
A
- Superficial to deep partial
- Edematous and thick skin
- pain and cap refill
- May take up to 60 days to heal

Third degree- Sx
A
- Full thickness to subQ - White black to brown -Leathery skin - No pain or cap refill - No spontaneous healing

Thermal burns- Tx
A
- ABCDEs first
- Control pain and fluids
- Consider compartment syndrome
- Update tetanus
- Transfer to burn unit greater 10%

Chemical burns- Eti
A
- Alkali worse than acid
- Alkali- full thickness leathery and slippery
Acid- partial thickness Erythema and edema - Odd shaped lesions

Irrigation with ta water
- Do not attempt to neutralize
- Fluids grafting send to burn unit
