What does artifice mean?
Involves being “cunning, skilled, artful” for example:
- Making up fake Telecom identification and then pretending you need to enter the house to check the phones.
- Promising a young child sweets if he or she opens the door.

- Any building OR Any ship OR Any part of any building OR Any part of any ship
- Without authority
- With intent to commit an imprisonable offence in the building OR ship
What is the definition for any building?
Any building or structure of any description whether permanent or temporary; and includes a tent, caravan, or houseboat; and also includes any enclosed yard or any closed cave or closed tunnel.
What is the definition for Any ship?
Any vessel used in navigation, however propelled.
What are the ingredients for burglary (having entered)?
- Having entered
- Any building OR Any ship
- Remains without authority
- With intent to commit an imprisonable offence in the building OR ship
What is aggravated burglary?
Having a weapon with him or her.
What is an enclosed yard?
A yard is enclosed if the bulk of the boundary is in someway enclosed eg a fence or other form of border.
