What is the definition of airgun?
Any rifle/pistol from which a projectile can be discharged by use of gas or compressed air.
What is the definition of a firearm?
Means anything from which a projectile can be discharged by force of explosion.
What is the definition for imitation firearm?
Anything appearing to be a firearm whether or not capable of discharging a shot.
What is the definition of a pistol?
Any firearm designed or adapted to be held in one hand and less than 762mm long.
What is the definition of a restricted weapon?
As declared by the governor-general (molotov cocktail, grenades, rocket launchers).
What is the definition of explosives?
Any substance capable of exploding (dynamite, tnt, marine distress flares)
What is the definition of a MMSA?
Military style semi automatic, or a firearm which after being loaded, fires, ejects and chambers another cartridge with each trigger pull. Must have one or more….. Folding/telescopic butt, bayonet lugs, free standing pistol grip, flash suppressor, and magazine capable of holding more than 7 cartridges.
How do you get a firearms licence?
- A person aged 16 years or over (16-18 need parents permission).
- Lodged with police who conduct enquiries to the applicants suitability.
- Applicant sits and passes firearms test, then licence is issued.
- Licence lasts 10 years.
What are the licence categories?
Category A = Full licence for the possession and use of conventional firearms (not pistols, restricted weapons or MSSAs).
Category B = Pistols, providing the owner is a member of a pistol club.
Category C = Collections, restricted weapons and use of weapons in theaterical performances.
Category D = Firearms dealer.
Category E = Military style semi-automatic firearms.
