Brushing Flashcards
The greyhound comb
Has no handle & usually 2 types of teeth 1 half of the comb has finely spaced teeth the other half courser section where teeth are further apart.
The slicker brush
Has many small, curved wire pins set in a rubber pad & comes in designs from a soft slicker for more delicate skin to a harder brush designed for the more matted coat & dogs with tougher skin.theres a variety of sizes from very small (1 1/2 - 2” across) to a large brush for large breeds
Brushing technique most effective for long haired coats is layer brushing
Starting at the bottom of a leg, pulling the first section of hair down & brushing right through from the skin a layer at a time hence the name.
Technique pat & pull
If the slicker brush is used correct it won’t scratch the skin the technique is to pat the coat with the full pad of the brush & pull away with each stroke, keeping your wrist straight & working from the shoulder do not flick the wrist as u brush u will cause the dog to have scratched sore skin called brush burn
