Bronchodilators - 2 groups + 1 drug and their indications
Selective β2-agonists - acute asthmatic attacks.
Muscarinic antagonists - COPD.
Theophylline - asthma or emphysema.
Selective β2-agonists - MOA in asthma
Increase cAMP in smooth muscle and cause muscle relaxation, without causing much cardiac stimulation.
Selective β2-agonists - adverse effects
High doses: tachycardia, tremor, nervousness.
Rapid-acting β2-agonitst - 5 drugs
Albuterol. Levalbuterol. Fenoterol. Pirbuterol. Terbutaline.
Rapid-acting β2-agonists - indications
Prevent and treat acute bronchospasm
Selective β2-agonists - adm
Rapid-acting β2-agonists - inhalation.
Albuterol and terbutaline - also oral (for pts unable to take inhaled drug)
Salmeterol and formoterol - indications and classification
LABAs used for long-term treatment of asthma and emphysema.
Nocturnal asthmatic attacks (inhibit late phase).
Arformoterol - indications
Chronic bronchitis and emphysema
Indacaterol - classification
Ultralong-acting β2-agonist.
