Bronchiectesis Flashcards

1
Q

Pathophysiology

A

an abnormal and irreversible dilation, distortion and possible inflammation of the airways

  • result of infection, causing acute inflammation
  • prolonged inflammatory process results in destroyed MCC and cartilagenous structures
  • stimulates excessive mucus production
  • causes airway destruction and MCC dysfunction
  • results in cycle of infection and colonisation of lungs
