young female 20-40
painless lump
highly mobile
usually up to 3cm
firm, non-tender
rounded with smooth edges

although benign still requires assessment
under 30 - routine referral
over 30 - urgent referral
what is fibrocystic disease of the breast
most common benign breast disease
most common in 20-50 year olds
bilateral “lumpiness”
painful breast
sx worsen during menstrual cycle - peaks 1 weeks before menstruation

management of fibrocystic breast disease
mainly supportive
soft, well-fitted bra
avoid caffeine
analgesia
palpable per-aerolar mass
thick yellow, green, brown nipple discharge bilaterally
mammary duct ectasia
fast growing lump in breast
presenting in women in 40s/50s
smooth, hard palpable mass
phyllodes tumour
bloody nipple discharge
intraductal papilloma
eczema like rash around nipple - crusty, red and itchy
nipple discharge may be bloody
burning sensation - increased sensitivity and pain
nipple changes - retraction or inversion
paget’s disease of the nipple
