What is a concussion?
ANY neurological symptom due to an impulse to the brain
Typical concussion symptoms?
Typical symptoms: headache, nausea, vertigo, foggy, difficulty reading, concentration. Moody, withdrawn.
Made worse with activity and stimulation: light, sound, motion.
What is the most important factor contributing to 2nd Impact Syndrome or Post Concussive syndrome?
How many concussions you have and how close the concussions are together.
What is the responsibility of the coach of a child who is suspected to have a concussion?
Coach should bench the child and then have them get a note from a health professional to let them play again.
Describe Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy:
What is its mechanism?
Late onset behavior changes including aggression, depression and cognitive deficits. Subsets show features of parkinsonism or ALS
Perivascular deposition of Tau in amygdala, thalamus, and sulci
BBB protein (HMGB1)-blocks inflammaotry TBI changes
What helmet is endorsed by physicians?
