2 METHODS OF LEGAL CERTIFICATION OF DEATH
-permanent and irreversible cessation of heart beat and loss of cardiac function
-permanent irreversible loss of brain function
IMPLICATIONS OF TRANSPLANT ORGANS TO HOST
-improves prospect of immediate function of transplanted tissues
-immediate for heart and liver 6 hrs
-highly desirale for kidney lung, pancreas, bowel
-minimise critical time of warm ischemia before cold perfusion of removed organs

HOW TO DIAGNOSE

A

CRITERIA
-REQUIRE appropriate clinical setting like stroke/trauma
-loss of higher function : coma
-loss lower brain : respiration and reflexes cranial nerve
-resp cease>cardiac arrest in 30 mins

OTHER CRITERIA
exclude hypothermia, metabloc(thyroid), drugs such cns dep. muscle relaxants
HOW TO CONFIRM RESP PARALYSIS
-over 10 minute interval of >increase co2>no stimulation by brain stem
-check cranila for other lower

-2 independent doctors senior, in two different occasions
