What are dendrites?

A

recieve an electrical impulse (action potential) from other neurons or sensory receptors.

Q

What is an axon?

A

A long fibre that carries the electrical impulse from the cell body to the axon terminal.

Q

What is the myelin sheath?

A

Insulating layer that protects the axon and speeds up the transmission of the electrical impulse.

Q

What are the Nodes of Ranvier?

A

These are gaps in the myelin sheath that speed up transmission of electrical impulse along the axon.

Q

Where are sensory neurons found?

A

Sensory neurons are found in the sensory receptors (e.g eyes, ears, tongue and skin)
- long dendrites and short axon

Q

What is the role of sensory neurons?

A
  • Sensory neurons carry electrical impulses from sensory receptors to the CNS via the PNS.

Q

What is the role of motor neurons?

A
  • They send electrical impulses via long axons to the glands and muscles called effectors.
  • short dendrites and long axons

Q

What is the role of the relay neuron?

A
  • They connect sensory neurons to motor

neurons so that they can communicate with one another.
