Intially 444 CH with 3 quality tiers
CB exceptionnel
CB superieur

2003 revision trimmed to 247
2007 classification banned
2008 reinstated with Cru Bourgeoise only
In 2018 chateau could apply for exceptionnel and Superior again.
It will appear in 2020.
The classification is meant to be revieved every 5 yrs
