Booklet 1 Flashcards
LEARN!!!!!!!!!!!
What are nucleic acids made up of?
Nucleotides
What are nucleotides made up of?
Phosphate, Sugar, Nitrogen Containing Base
What does only ATP contan?
Adenine
What order does Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine go?
A=T C=G
ATP is made up of what?
Phosphate, Ribose Sugar, Adenine Base
Why is ATP used as an energy source?
Soluble but cannot leave cell, only requires one bond to be broken, releases energy in small amounts
Is RNA single or double stranded?
Single stranded
What nucleotide base is only found in RNA
Uracil
What is tRNA
Transfer RNA is composed of RNA that is a physical link between the mRNA and the amino acid sequence of proteins. It does this by carrying an amino acid to the ribosome.
What is mRNA
A messenger that transfers genetic information from DNA to ribosomes for transcription
What is a ribosome?
Something which performs protein synthesis. They link amino acids together in the order specified by the codons of mRNA to form polypeptide chains.
Is DNA single or double stranded?
Double stranded
What is a codon?
Three nucleotide bases on mRNA which attaches to ribosomes
What is a anti-codon?
It converts the codon sequence on mRNA to make a primary structure
What is the secondary structure?
Hydrogen bonds, alpha helix
