Summary of Part Two

A

Part two of Book nine took place in the land of the Kyklopes. Odysseus and his companions were in search but they wanted the cheeses while Odysseus wanted to see what the caveman would offer him. Odysseus along with a couple of his men, were now trapped and unable to leave. Odysseus attempted to escape Polyphemus by giving him a suspicious drink and stabbing him in the eye. He tricked Polyphemus by giving him a fake name but unfortunately, the giant boulder that blocked the exit was too heavy and so, they had no way out. The next morning, Polyphemus let his sheep out but Odysseus and his men were tied to the bottom of the sheep and hanged on until they reached outside.

Q

Summary of Part One

A

Book nine begins with Odysseus answering and mentioning his story of what happened in his journey after the Trojan war. Odysseus talks about the rough time he had on sea with his companions and how Zeus caused a storm at sea. Next, Odysseus and his companions came to the coastline of the Lotos Eaters. The honeyed plant Lotos, that was given to them, made them lose hope of home. Odysseus warned the others who had not eaten the plant and they headed off the island and back out to sea, in search of their homeland.
