Book #1, Chapter #11, Grammar, Set #1 Flashcards
When do you use Spanish familiar commands?
When you want to give a command to someone you normally refer to by the familiar “tú”.
How are most Spanish familiar commands conjugated?
Just like the él/ella forms of their regular verbs:
A) “Guarda el documento antes de cerrario”.
Save the document before closing it.
B) “Imprime tu tarea para la clase de inglés.”
Print your homework for English class.
Which verbs have irregular tú commands and what are these forms?
decir -> dí hacer -> haz ir -> ve poner -> pon salir -> sal ser -> sé tener -> ten venir -> ven
How do you form negative tú commands?
First, drop the -o from the yo form of a regular verb in the present tense. If the verb is -ar, add -es to the end, while if the verb is -er or -ir, add -as to the end.
hablar -> hablo -> no hables guardar -> guardo -> no guardes prender -> prendo -> no prendas volver -> volvo -> no volvas pedir -> pido -> no pidas
What is the rule about verbs with irregular yo forms when forming the negative tú? What about stem-changing verbs?
Both types of verbs keep their irregularities in the negative tú form.
A) No pongas el disco en el computadora.
Don’t put the disk into the computer.
B) No conduzcas tan rápido.
Don’t drive so fast.
C) No pierdas tu celular.
Don’t lose your cell phone.
D) No vuelvas a esa gasolinera.
Don’t go back to that gas station.
How do verbs ending in -car, -gar, or -zar change in the negative tú form?
-car changes stem to end in -qu, -gar ends in -gu, and -zar has a new stem ending in -c:
A) sacar -> c to qu -> no saques
B) apagar -> g to gu -> no apagues
C) almorzar -> z to c -> no almuerces
Which verbs are irregular in the negative tú form and what are these forms?
dar -> no des estar -> no estés ir -> no vayas saber -> no sepas ser -> no seas
