Diaphysis (shaft)
Where does Giant Cell Tumor usually occur?
Epiphisis (End of bone)
Where does Chondrosarcoma usually occur?
Metaphysis (center)
Where does Osteosarcoma usually occur?
Physis (off Center)
What are the traits of an osteoma?
Benign tumor of mature bone
Asymptomatic
Local and mechanical problems
Cortical Bones of Skull and Face
What are the Traits of osteoid osteoma and Osteoblastoma?
Benign. X-Ray Central Area of tumor radiolucent.
PAINFUL lesions relieved by aspirin (OO, not in OBA)
What are the traits of Osteoblatoma?
Vertebral column
Radiolucent nidus
Histo Identical to OO
Pain not relieved by Aspirin
What are the Traits of Osteosarcoma?
MALIGNANT Have to See OSTEOID Most common 1^malignant tumor of bone BIMODAL Age Distribution Metaphysis of long bones
What are the clinical traits of Osteosarcoma?
Bone PAIN, Swelling, Path Fracture
AGRESSIVE 20% w/ pulm mets at time of Dx
What are the most common locations for Osteosarcoma?
Around Knee 60%
Prox Femur 15%
Prox Humerus 10%
What is Codman’s Triangle?
Elevation of periosteum to produce an angle between surface of involed bone
Lamellated
Multilayered “Onion Skin”
Spiculated
“Sunburst” or “Hair on End”
What are the traits of Osteochondroma?
Young men
Metaphysis, Epiphyseal Plate, Polypoid Growth on x ray. Tx: Excision
