Most common cause of septic arthritis?
Staph aureus.
How does Septic arthritis present?
Extremely painful, red, hot swollen mono-arthritis.
Antibiotics for septic arthritis?
IV Flucloxacillin.
Investigation of septic arthritis?
CRP, culture, synovial fluid microscopy and C/S.
Causes of early, delayed and late post op prosthetic join infection?
Early = staph aureus.
Delayed = staph epidermidis.
Late = staph aureus.
Prophylactic ABx for prosthesis insertion?
Co-amoxiclav.
How does osteomyelitis present?
Infection of the bone, pain swelling and erythema overlying the site of infection
Low grade fever.
Management of osteomyelitis?
Flucloxacillin.,
Presentation of necrotising fasciitis?
Pain of out proportion. Can be caused by group A strep, anaerobes or aerobes.
Mild fever.
Debridement and ABx.
Cause of gas gangrene?
Clostridium perfringens.
Bubbling of the skin.
Debridement + penicllin and metronidazole.
What she is tetanus bacteria?
Drumstick shaped.
Management of tetanus?
Present with spastic paralysis.
Surgical debridement + penicillin and metronidazole
