Body Cavities & Membranes Flashcards
What are the cavities found in the axial portion of the body?
Cranial Cavity- Brain
Vertebral Cavity- Spinal cord
Thoracic cavity- heart, lungs, mediastinum
Where is the Left pleural cavity, Mediastinum, right pleural cavity, and Pericardial cavities located ?
The Thoracic Cavity
What two cavities are located in the abdominopelvic cavity?
- Abdominal cavity
- Pelvic cavity
what membrane lines the thoracic cavity?
pleural membranes
What membrane surrounds the heart?
pericardial membranes
what membrane lines the abdominal cavity?
Peritoneal membranes
pariental
attaches to wall cavity; just outside of the membrane
visceral
covers the internal organ; attached to membranes
A sagittal section…
divides the body into right and left portions. If it passes along the midline and divides the body into equal parts it is a median or midsagittal section. A section lateral to the midline is parasagittal.
A transverse (horizontal) section…
divides the body into superior and inferior portions.
A frontal (coronal) section…
divides the body into anterior and posterior sections.
What are the 9 regions of the abdominal?
Right hypochondriac region Right lateral region Right inguinal region Epigastric region Umbilical region Pubic region Left hypochondriac region Left lateral region Left inguinal region
What are the four quadrants of the abdominal?
Right upper quadrant (RUQ)
Right lower quadrant (RLQ)
Left upper quadrant (LUQ)
Left lower quadrant (LLQ)
