Assess responsiveness
“hello can you hear me?”
“Open your eyes!”
shake shoulders + trap pinch
Direct person to call 999
Tell them there is an unresponsive person and ask for an AED
3 steps before ABC
- inspect mouth for obstruction
- head tilt chin lift
- remove patients jacket
where are hands for chest compressions?
midpoint between xiphisternum and jug notch (NOT on xiphi because risk fracture and lung puncture)
- generally between nipples
ratio of rescue breaths to chest compressions
30 compressions : 2 breaths
Hand CPR over to someone else
first check that they know how to do CPR
then say that when you do next rescue breaths they should take over or count them in and slide over
At what point do you stop CPR?
a health professional tells you to stop
you become exhausted
the patient is waking up
