Blow Holes And Geos Flashcards
1
Q
What is a geo?
A
Long, narrow linear landform of erosion
2
Q
Give a brief description of the formation of a geo
A
- Blow hole is formed
- Air and water forced through blow hole by breaking waves
- Causes large pressure changes in cave and further erosion
- Blow hole eventually collapses forming geo
3
Q
Give 3 characteristics of geos
A
- Occur on high energy coasts
- Follows fault lines
- Generally formed in softer rocks
4
Q
What is a blowhole?
A
Vent/hole in a sea cave extending to the clifftop formed from a geo
6
Q
Give a brief description of the formation of a blowhole
A
- Sea cave is formed at base of cliff due to continuous erosion
- Sometimes, bear vertical joint is present at back of sea cave
- Wave reaches back of sea cave, hydraulic action takes place
- Finally, joint is widened into vertical funnel called blowhole when erosion extend to clifftop
