Katyn Massacre

A

April 1940

  • decide to shoot 21 000 elite Polish troops, writers, and intellectuals.
  • Sent to three different camps: Starobelsk, Kozelsk, Ostashkov
  • Polish began asking questions and interviewing evacuated people to try and find out what happened.
  • eventually Germans discover this in 1943 and use it as distraction to the massive ghetto uprisings Nazi Germany was facing the time.
  • 1990 Soviets finally admit to it and stop blaming Ger.
  • Smolensk plane crashes in 2010 on his way to commemorate the fallen soldiers.
